'Tis nearly the season to be jolly ..

tra la la la la la la la la

A lovely post from Megan and this post from the Diary of a Domestic Competent (don't you love that name!) have me thinking about Christmas. I'm never likely to be that organised but it would be nice to have some projects underway now so that I can finish them well before the celebrations are in full swing.

I was very sick with gastro just before Christmas last year which kind of ruined any plans we had. Hopefully this year we'll have more fun. We're extra excited this year too because my nephews and neice are coming out from Holland and we haven't seen them for such a long time - in fact we haven't even met our neice.

So, to my projects! The first project to be hauled out is my advent stocking garland. I finished all the stockings last year and we filled them but I didn't complete all the numbers.

Advent stocking garland

Of course, I promised myself I wouldn't put it away until I had and now it's nearly November. I found it still waiting patiently on the shelf near my desk. Let's see if I can have these done by sometime next week - it's only numbers 17 to 24 - easy!

Then after a little research last night I re-discovered this wonderful Holiday ornament swap which I just missed out on last year. I really, really want to do this as I love the idea of receiving lots of little packages from around the world and how lovely to think that something I have made will (hopefully) grace something as special as someone's Christmas tree. So if you are interested go check out Freshly Blended the first week in November.

Here's a little inspiration. One of the best things about this swap is the fantastic mix of crafts and mediums. There's fabric, wool, felt, buttons, paper, beads, wood, plastic, ceramics and even metal. Some of them are just beautiful but my favourites have to be the little aprons (I so wish I had that idea), the adorable pink houses and the sweet penguins.

My creation

1. Pinky Ornamenty Goodness!!, 2. all done!, 3. the whole gang!

I would also like to work on some ornaments with my two older girls. Maybe using felt and embroidery or maybe something like this wonderful idea from Domesticali. I think I'll let them come up with some ideas and see if some of them are not too hard to create.

What Christmas/Holidays projects are you up to??

Your stockings are adorable! I did a similar one from felt but mine are smaller as I am tight and only put one sweet in each (we do have a wooden one with drawers too to fill!). I have vowed not to put my Xmas decs up too early this year as I always get fed up of stepping round them all by the middle of Dec! I am sewing away at stuff to sell and am hoping for a couple of weeks off before I put my own up so I am not totally Xmased out!

Love your stocking garland. I thought about one last year and am still thinking about it this year. Guess I may get round to it sometime in the next decade!

I love your stocking garland. I keep meaning to make one for my kids, but then real life gets in the way and I don't get a chance. Maybe I'll start in the summer!!!!!

Tonight I'm making christmas birds and felt tree decorations, for craft fairs I have coming up (OK, I'm not - I'm sat here instead....Oops!)

Christmas?
Haven't done anything yet, one year I made salt dough ornaments with the kids, but they got eaten by rats because we had to put our stuff in storage in someone's shed.

I would really like to make some gifts this year, I guess I should start soon. Thanks for the prod. Those little ornaments are adorable.

Wowee! That stocking garland is gorgeous. I haven't even started thinking about christmas, have only just started making the presents...I'm going for as much handmade as I can this year. I'm going to lookup that swap as it could be interesting.

Your stocking look great - good luck with getting the numbers finished. I have too many things that I would like to do before Christmas (including making somethings to sell at my local market!) Will see how I go - but I am betting that I dont get it all done (considering that I will be 35 weeks pregnant at Christmas Time!)

Ooooh, I LOVE your stocking garland... I am completely inspired!!! Perhaps next year though as I have about 1001 angels to make for family and friends this year. Am starting a wee bit late (typically I start in Sept) but am hoping I can play catch ups!

xx

ps. how delightful is Christmas craft!

I love the stockings, so bright and cheerful. I hope you finish off the numbers. I had great plans of making a table runner but so far have only attached the pictures to the felt. All the sewing still needs to be completed. Perhaps next Christmas.

I love your advent stockings, what a great idea! Those tiny aprons are cute too. I haven't had any great ideas for Christmas, to be honest, I've barely thought about it yet. I know I'll be thinking about it now. Thanks for the inspiration.
